Alex Nicholls joined the Cobblers ahead of the 2012/13 season to bolster Aidy Boothroyd’s attacking threat.
Nicholls soon became a fans favourite at the club with his all energy displays and some vital goals. He scored 8 goals in 16 games before his season was ended prematurely when on 27 October he broke his leg after a late challenge from Port Vale defender John McCombe.
It took a long time for Nicholls to regain full fitness and when he scored against AFC Wimbledon, it was one of the most emotional goal celebrations that Cobblers fans have been involved in.
In this special episode of It’s All Cobblers To Me, Alex joins Charles to talk about his career as a footballer and especially his time at Northampton Town.
Alex talks candidly about the horrific injury he sustained during the act of scoring for The Cobblers against Port Vale. He opens up on his long recovery and how the club supported him throughout that period of his life.
Find out Alex’s opinions on Aidy Boothroyd, Bayo Akinfenwa and some of his other teammates at Sixfields.

Charles is the founder and main presenter of the award-winning It’s All Cobblers To Me podcast.
He began the podcast after going self-employed in 2018 as a podcast producer and voiceover artist. The original thought being that It’s All Cobblers To Me would be a place to try out new things – like a test podcast of sorts.
As well as being Cobblers mad, Charles is also a ultramarathon runner and has a blog about that that he tries to keep up to date as often as he can.
