John Brady did say that he'd missed out on a couple of transfer targets but we did bringing Idris Kanu from some other team down the road charles today. How feelings on that.

Nu's yeah, you're talking about um ambition then and such a ah journey from there obviously with the backing from the class night into famously. Um is that ambition still felt. Do you think from the owners at the moment.

Yeah I mean that when they came in I think they targeted within 15 years to be in the championship and you know the first 7 8 of those well I'll take 7 have been meteoric by 1 promotion season 1 season 2 season 4 and season 5 so you know 4 promotions in 5 years and they were well on target and we go into every lead 2 season. So with that ambition of promotion and 1 of the things that stake to me actually when we sign Nathan Pos he said you don't as a player you don't go into a season thinking right? We're going to go from a table here. You know any team that has got anything about them. Your ambition is to finish as high as you can and you know that that's certainly true here. Obviously we've not realized that yet. But I'd say in 2 seasons. We've come close on both occasions.

Um, ah guess it's quite lazy of us because we I think a couple of us predicted on our preseason show that salford would be if not title winners definitely up above but above in the top 3 um. With it being your third season in the league should you be challenging more? Do you think than you are.

Yeah I mean it's a difficult one to put the finger on because obviously everyone sees the caliber of players. We pull in that we do bring in and you look at the league position and think well why you down there. But I think there is something about. 1 league two' is a very very difficult league without doubt. It's most difficult league that we've been in you know I've watched regularly premer league and championship football for most of my life and even watching that's say league two is. The absolute most difficult. Um, what you also find is other factors. So I think there might be some pressure on the plays that they know they're coming in and that's what the expectations are and from other teams as well. A lot of people don't expect but I hate to say it in. And I'm not doing it in a big headed way. We are a lot of people's in cherry you know people want to come they want to play well against us you see levels coming up another five ten percent and you know we've been caught out a number of times by not being at one hundred and ten percent um which is what we've got to be at every week um but you know what like said before we're not, we've never been million miles off but we've not quite got it right? Yard'd say.

There is I think there are certainly some fan who's come in in more recent times expecting to come in and watch winning team I don't think they fully or some of them I don't think fully understand what. League 2 wo's about and that it isn't as simple as go out, get the best players and you're going to walk away with it. There are so many of the things to build a very good league 2 team. Um, but I think a lot of fans that I know who being here for. More than seven or eight years since the class nights 2 took over most of them are certainly very happy with where they are with where the club is right now particularly compared to you know where we have been previously I mean prescott cables away on the Tuesday night isn't the most glamorous of places to go. Um, you know, looking back to our midweek game neithers barrow to be perfectly honest, but you know what watching weekend week out getting to go to groundside you know Valley parade and all these sorts of places that you know they understand where we are. There's still that ambition there. You know. That's never going to change and they're just happy to be enjoying the journey still.

He's um, it's interesting say that because I was interested to know whether there's a divide in in the fan base because obviously there are those fans that have been there since the days when you know it was just you know. And open field essentially with a cafe and and and you know a very small stand with a few seats to what it is now at the you know the new stadium. Um, and then you've got these newer fans coming in that are obviously coming in because of the fact that you know we. You can't deny it the class night to Gary Neville being the the figurehead for the for the club now they're going to come in. They're going to go and watch that I presume you get a lot of united fans that go and watch on the days when united aren't playing if united are playing on Sunday they'll go to soford on Saturday so you. Is there a noticeable dividing in that sort of fanbase. Do. Do you maybe sort of see the the old guard if you like just sort of being there and being a bit more like relaxed about everything a bit happier without everything's going whereas and maybe tutting a little bit of the newer crowd that ah.

Yeah, it's hard to disagree with that I mean there are you know some who don't like some of the newer fans that have come in and have this expectation like saying before you know from what they've been through with the club in the northwest counties even below. Um, and I got involved to where we are now you know they're very proud of where we are and maybe a bit more accepting and understanding of where we are and that we're not just going to go up every every year you know that that is impossible whether it's. Full on divide and I wouldn't say it's completely like one side and the other. But yeah there there is a little bit of difference in opinion as to how we're doing and where we are where we maybe should be.

Well, ah I'm one of these quite holistic you are where you deserve to be you know football over the course of season balances itself out. You can start poorly get a good run of form and. And really well and see where you end up higher at the table or you can start off really well get complacent and slip out down. So you know you I don't think anybody can say you should be in a certain place like we're saying before you look at our squad and. Experience. They've got and there the promotions they've got in there then yes, you might expect us to be higher up but it isn't it really isn't so simple. You know, trying to find the way that those players play together. For example, you know that team chemistry is such an important part and. That's the bit that you need to get right? So you know we are where we are I can't say that there's too much this season that I'll look back and think that really really went against us. You know last weekend's against cold Chester probably isn't the best that I've ever seen us play. I think I will put that there in 1 of the worst performances I think I've seen from a Salford side and that's just being goneestt over the last seven or eight years um but then we have had some spectacular wins. Really good performances and bits some some good points. So yeah. We are why we are and we'll see why we finished come may.

Suppose it's that that thing that I mean you said about before about how essentially you've kind of got a target on your head from the other clubs and you know the other teams and the other players that come to to play you because you you know you're spending money that other clubs in this division, especially you know. And only dream of being able to go and spend on players of the caliber that you've got and I mean I know that it essentially comes down to jealousy. Whatever way you look at it fans are jealous of of other clubs. There is going to be a jealousy factor towards Salford City I mean you've only got a look at the. Recent signing in in Mattie Smith you know that's a huge signing for any league 2 side to get him to come down from the championship regardless of whether he was playing week in week out at millwall or not. He's known he has scored goals in that division and then all of a sudden. He's dropped down. Divisions. It's the same as what happened the other day when I can't remember the lad's name but the guy that wreckre some have paid 300000 to Afc Wilmoron for Oli Palmer yeah you know I mean that's that's ridiculous and and we all kind of look at it and just go wow but essentially it's jealousy that the cobblers haven't.

They are so it's that's quite a funny irony I find but you know it it is a bit of jealousy and no foot or very few football clubs have ever. Built themselves from absolutely nothing. You know there aren't football clubs that pay a packet of peanuts and you know a part of law grafter again that football in itself is becoming a beast that is losing control of itself very quickly I find but you know we do have. That ability. We do use it and you know it like said before you you have the other side of that coin where it getting it to work. You know it's all very well and good having the best resources but it's you know sometimes. Making the most of them you know I look at Gary Raward for example, a manager who works on a very limited budget does absolute wonders who's given a war chest at stoke and he failed so you know it's it. It really isn't always the answer and.

It really isn't a bad thing to have so you know he can be jealous about resources that some have but I think what was seen more and more at the moment if you still have a football club to follow and support and you know they're looking after themselves and the fans. You've got that then you really can't take that for granted either.

I've not ever really seen anything that is against the owners from the club um or from the sporters. There's you know dialogue between some groups. Particularly the older ones who have got a lot more deeper invested interests in the club and the committee as well. Particularly ah, not much happens without the committee being aware of it and having their say you know a lot of them have been of club for. Over 30 years so you know they are still with a beating heartbeat of what it's about and the owners are the owners and that um I think there's a little bit of descent towards the recruitment have to say and you know our has the club. Brought the right players in or not and because there've been some brunaland dry For example, you know, never really worked out for him. We had Mark Green for a time that never really worked out and Danny Lloyd as well came from that blue club down the road. Um, you know I never.

Yeah I mean ah I always hope that when people come to us they see that you know we're not a load of really stock up people who believe we've got an entitlement to be higher up. You know, a lot of us behind the scenes of help to build where we are now. It would have been very easy when the club went professional for them to instead of take myself on and my former colleagues who been there for the last three four years you know go and offer someone who's been there done it at the top flights or the championship to come in and do our jobs. Um, you know they could have gone out and got a really experienced tick office manager you know commercial manager in all these different roles. But instead they've entrusted to that to us and I think we've helped to continue bringing that you know we are normal people. Um, you know there isn't anything special about us. You know there's something exciting and special about where we work yes, but you know that that doesn't change anything about us and you know I do hope that people see that just on the social media thing we. Ah, feel that we do need to be a bit more careful than others at times because a lot of people very quick scrutinize us and you know criticizes I think like said it it was only matter of minutes wasn't it before newport straight on it but it I think that's why i. Sort of cut it a bit short and sweet because we have previously done that um you know we've had that ready since December because we knew that's what we're going to do for any January incomings. So it's just not worth the battle. Really, it was quite funny just to seek you out of stuff that comes out you and you just. All you can do sit there and laugh at times.

It's just strange to come by consistency I think throughout our league to stay. We've never really put together that run of you know, 3 4 wins we've had a couple of unbeaten runs but they've never really got anywhere near to double figures. So. That's something that's maybe always been a little bit absent. Obviously we've got Ian Henderson missing long term which hasn't helped in terms of you know someone who is going to put the ball away and obviously without goals. You're going to struggle to win some games. Um December. We were quite unlucky in that we've not actually had to shut down due to covid at all throughout the pandemic and yet in December we lost to think 3 maybe 4 games because the opposition had covid so that was frustrating because after we beat Steve image we felt we could have gone on a run then. But you know there's still just under half the season to go plenty of time.

We've got these postpone games in such a short space of time because it means that we've not had to you know wait week to week you know we've been able to go Saturday Tuesday and while it might take a bit out of the lats and you look at the back end of December and we didn't play from December the eighteenth to January the eighth. All 3 so far and he got an assist as well now on his record so you know he he's one who I'm really looking forward to when he does fully betting and settled. You know he he's from the northwest anyway. So. It's not a big movie should be relatively settled and I think if we do go on to finish well and end up in the playoffs I think he will play one of the most important roles in that.
