Trounce Them In The Playground

Tranmere Rovers 0-2 Northampton Town

Having beaten Stevenage at Sixfields in midweek, the Cobblers made the journey up to the North West to face a Tranmere side who sat 5th in the table and held the record for the most clean sheets in the entirety of English professional football this season.

After 45 minutes of sizing each other up, The Cobblers came out of the traps with a purpose after half time and quickly seized the initiative through a Kion Etete strike before Paul Lewis was felled by Tranmere’s keeper in the box and Sam Hoskins made it two from the penalty spot.

Charles’ Match Day Experience

Being a fairly local game, our Charles made the journey to the Wirral and provided us with some insight that those following on the radio won’t have seen.

Firstly, Etete’s goal was a direct result of what the Cobblers’ front four were practicing during the warm up. Ball goes out wide to Pinnock, cross is hit early into the box and Etete meets it at pace.

Then there is the legend that is Adam Morton scoring in front of the travelling Northampton fans to much fanfare.

Off the pitch there was noticeable attempts to get the fans to the stadium early with a supporters’ Trust ran marquee (or fan park as they called it) outside the club shop that was hosting an Oktoberfest beer festival. With the resurrection of The New Hotel End team on social media this weekend, maybe something like this would be a good starting point?

Postbag

Thanks to everyone for answering our call to arms last week and getting in touch after a win and not just when we lose. We had lots of messages sent to us at @CobblersToMe on Twitter and a couple of emails too.

Our main email this week comes from Robert Salmons about the future of the match day football programme.

NTFC Women Win In The FA Cup

The women’s team did us proud once more by overcoming Tamworth Women to reach the 1st Round proper of the Women’s FA Cup. The game finished 1-0 with the goal coming from It’s All Cobblers To Me sponsored player, Abbie Brewin! We are so proud of the whole team but especially our Abbie.

The next game for NTFC Women is on Sunday at Harpole Playing Fields in the league against Lincoln United WFC. Please do go and support the team if you can.

Meanwhile, the Cobblers have been drawn at home to National league side Bedworth United Ladies in the 1st round. Surely this needs to be a Sixfields special?!

Cobblers News

Elsewhere this week:

Congratulations to Tom Cliffe for winning the election for the supporters representative position on the NTFC board.

Walter Tull was inducted into the National Football Museum’s Hall Of Fame.

The New Hotel End project team have become active once more on Twitter by explaining what it is they’re looking to do and how they will need the help and backing of both the football club and the NTFC Supporters’ Trust.
