Sexy Football and Award Winning Goals

Northampton Town Podcast Lincoln Loss – Charles, Chessie, Danny and Neil look back on the week’s Cobblers news including departures, improved performances and a goal worthy of winning any match but didn’t.

Evolution of the Cobblers

Keith Curle has had to defend his sides playing style quite a lot this season. Most recently he gave our very own Danny a death stare as he was questioned over whether he could accept the current brand of football on show wasn’t very enjoyable.

He has always stated though that he will evolve the style over time. And having witnessed a fairly decent performance away at second placed Lincoln City on Saturday, that evolution may have just begun.

In the lead up to the match, Curle made three new signings and all three of them started the game at Sincil Bank as the Cobblers lined up in a 433 formation.

I couldn’t believe my eyes at first as the Cobblers went at Lincoln with gusto, taking the game to their hosts in a way that was the complete opposite to how they capitulated just four weeks ago to the Imps at Sixfields.

There was absolutely no way that the Cobblers were going to be turned over 4-0 this time!

Bouyed by the new signings, the Cobblers seemed to have a new lease of life. By half time Teyn had more than matched the home side and should have maybe even been in front.

Even the usual negative section of the fan base had little to frown about as the Cobblers had more than 50% of the possession and were playing, dare I say it, attractive, front foot football.

Yes it’s a shame to see a legend such as Nicky Adams leave the club but if Curle is to evolve the way his team play, older heads like Adams will have to give way.

The even more recent signing of Peter Kioso (or Peter Kiosk as Chessie has nicknamed him!) is another exciting prospect. In fact, it makes us on the pod look brilliant as we called for a new right back to come in on this very podcast. We recorded on Sunday evening by the way so had no idea a signing was going to be announced.

To me, the players which Curle has brought in so far this month, and the business done in the other direction, has been good. No manager should get a free ride but Curle looks to have corrected most of the bad decisions that were made during the summer and that should be applauded.

I know full well that this post will be here to bite me in the bum if things don’t work out but I for one am looking forward to the next few months. Who knows, we might even finish mid table!
