Sincil Bank trip next up for Cobblers

Northampton Town Preview Podcast Lincoln Away – It’s a trip to joint table toppers Lincoln City this weekend for the Cobblers and joining Charles and Danny to preview the match is Imps fan Jake Tonge.

Less Conspiracy, More Theory

When researching and planning this week’s Preview Show I realised that Lincoln were promoted to League One exactly one year before the Cobblers and this got me thinking.

Or maybe fantasising is a better word for it?

I’m not one for superstition but I do wear the same clothes (underwear and all!) on a match day. But apart from that, superstition isn’t really my thing.

Yet something has drawn my eye to the fact that Lincoln won League Two in 2019 and then the very next season the Cobblers won the League Two play offs.

Now the Imps sit at the top of League One. Okay, they’re second. But only by goal difference. They’re playing really well and have a manager who seems to be brimming with ambition.

They’re a much changed side to the one that took League Two by storm just two years ago. The Cowley brothers brand of football that included getting the ball up to tall, muscle-y target men has been evolved by Michael Appleton and it seems to be suiting them to a tee.

This isn’t meant to be a post praising Lincoln City or Michael Appleton for that matter. I still think little Lincoln should know their place in the football pyramid and that Appleton needs to be more gracious in defeat. I haven’t gone completely mad.

Where it is all going wrong for me though is in the visions I’m having of the Cobblers playing in the Championship one year on from Lincoln achieving the same feat.

A boy can dream can’t he?
