Team of the Decade

Everyone has been busy creating their team of the decade this week and we're no different. But who will make our alternative Cobblers team and who will manage them?

There has been a lot of talk on social media about who should feature in the Cobblers Team of the Decade. Most have been fairly serious discussions which, rightly, include the vast majority of Chris Wilder’s title winning side of 2015/16.

Here at It’s All Cobblers To Me we have come up with our own version. A team full of personalities who have graced the hallowed turf at Sixfields. They may not be the best players to ever pull on the Claret and White but we loved them for some reason or another.

We start, as we feel you should always start these things, at the back.

GK – Neil Kitson

Signed in January 2012, USA’s Neil Kitson saved  a penalty in each of his first two games – against Crewe & Oxford. He left in August citing family reasons.

RB – Alistair Slowe

We couldn’t forget about Ali Slowe now could we? Danny spent the best part of the 2018/19 season trying to track him down for an interview. He failed miserably.

CB – Mathias Kouo-Doumbe

On the final day of the 2013/14 season, Chris Wilder welcomed his former club, Oxford, to Sixfields. John Marquis, Ivan Toney and Mathius Kouo-Doumbe scored in a 3-1 win. Instant hero.

CB – Pat Kanyuka

Danny’s first choice, Pat Kanyuka makes it into our Decade XI because he delivered to a standard that put his postman namesake to shame.

LB – Ashley Corker

A firm choice for Neil at left back is a man who sadly never lived up to his name. Corker spent 6 months at Sixfields in 2010, his only notable appearance coming in the 2-1 win at Ipswich in the League Cup.

RM – Ishmel Demontagnac

Appears in this team simply for his ridiculous behaviour and fantastic scything down of Dele Alli in a game against MK Dons.

CM – Nick McKoy

McKoy made 6 appearances for the Cobblers in 2011/12 and was sent off twice! In 2013, McKoy was arrested on suspicion of match fixing while playing in Australia. He pleaded guilty and was banned from playing football ever again.

CM – Kevin Thornton

If there is one player who we all wish could have extended his Cobblers career it has to be Kevin Thornton. While Abdul Osman is often given the credit, Kevin actually did silence the Kop.

LM – Hildeberto Pereira

The only bright spark of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s time at NTFC. Hildeberto could have been brilliant, if he wasn’t absolutely crazy!

CF – Kevin Luckassen

Scored with his first touch against Bristol Rovers in his first game back in 2018.

CF – Adebayo Akinfenwa

Okay so Bayo is a pretty obvious addition to our team but he defines the term cult hero for any Cobblers fan. Definitely not 2 Big 2 Play Football, Bayo spent two spells at Sixfields and we loved every second of them. Beast Mode On!

Notable Mentions:

  • Freddy Hall
  • Seb Harris
  • Ricky Ravenhill
  • Abdul Osman
  • Clarke Carlisle
  • Kevin Amankwaah
  • Stephen O’Flynn

Manager – Gary Johnson

There is only one man who can lead this bunch of misfits into oblivion. Naturally, this team would probably perform a lot better if they were led by anyone other than Gary “Bounce Around” Johnson.

There we have it, the It’s All Cobblers To Me Team of the Decade. What do you think of our team? Who have we missed out? Let us know in the comments.
