Northampton Town Podcast Oxford Preview – Charles and Neil are joined by Oxford United fan Simon from The Fence End Podcast to preview this Saturday’s League One game at the PTS.

Oxford United: The club we love to laugh with

Games between Northampton Town and Oxford United over the years have been pretty good on the most part from a Cobblers perspective. You have to go all the way back to October 2014 for the last U’s win at Sixfields.

Important games like the 3-1 home win in May 2014 that pretty much saved us from relegation out of the Football League.

And in February 2016 when the Cobblers came away from the Kassam with a 1-0 victory as Sir Chris Wilder’s Cobblers marched towards the League 2 title.

It was that season which saw Michael Appleton proclaim that his 2nd placed Oxford United were the best team in the league. So good in fact that they finished the season 13 points behind the Cobblers.

Rivalries have been born from less and the relationship between the two sets of fans has always had an edge.

In truth though, that relationship has been good natured. Unlike other local rivalries, Cobblers fans enjoy a bit of fun with their Oxford counterparts.

“Best team in League 2, delusional!” We scoffed as Oxford trounced us 4-0 last time out.

Hopefully normal service will be resumed this Saturday. Goodness knows we need it after recent results for the clubs around us in the League One table right now.
